A few short years ago I saw within the space of a week, unintentionally, Todd Haynes' "Far From Heaven" and Fassbinder's "Ali: Fear Eats the Soul", both of which were based on Sirk's "All That Heaven Allows". In fact, Todd Haynes shows up on the extras of the Fassbinder film to emphasize that connection, his homage to Fassbinder and both to Sirk. Of course Fassbinder was a Sirk fanatic which was reflected in many of his films that were hysterical in the clinical sense of the word...
